About Our Hosts
The Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the oldest art museums in the United States. Founded in 1881, it was the first purpose-built art museum west of the Alleghenies. Its collection of over 67,000 works spanning 6,000 years of human history make it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Midwest. (From Wikipedia.)Meeting attendees can get free entrance to the special exhibition Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion, so please stop by the front desk and tell the attendant that you are part of the Midwest Regional Conservation Guild to pick up a complimentary ticket. General admission is free. The conservation department here, open for tours Friday afternoon, is one of the oldest in the country!
The Preservation Lab: a conservation and preservation laboratory conceived and operated as an equally-shared collaborative resource between the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County (PLCH) and University of Cincinnati Libraries (UCL). Lab staff work on both collections, and the two institutions provide mutual support for disaster recovery, enjoy the benefits of pooled resources, and offer their services to other cultural heritage institutions.
Friday night we will be gathering for a reception and tour of the Cincinnati Observatory, a National Historic Landmark housing the oldest public telescope in the United States. Stick around afterwards if you’d like to participate in their Astronomy Friday stargazing session! (8:00—9:30 p.m., $7). http://www.cincinnatiobservatory.org
