Job Opportunity: Head of Preservation at Iowa State University Library
Summary: The Iowa State University Library seeks an engaging leader to serve as Head of Preservation. The Head of Preservation provides vision and leadership for a well-established preservation program for the Library’s collections across formats, facilities, and functional areas. The Head is responsible for overseeing staff who ensure immediate and long-term access to a wide variety of resources in a manner that both safeguards materials and promotes their use through collections care, preventive and interventive conservation of Special Collections and University Archives materials, digitization and reformatting, digital preservation, education and outreach, environmental monitoring, and emergency preparedness and disaster planning. The Preservation Department manages 7500 total square feet of reformatting and conservation lab space which is also a resource in service to ISU’s land-grant mission. In addition to overseeing the work of the Preservation Department, the Head has a vital role in setting overall preservation policy and priorities for the Library, addressing print and analog formats as well as the preservation of digital assets.
Starting salary range for this position: $70,000 - $85,000
Appointment type: Regular, full time
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree and 5 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience supervising and empowering staff.
Experience with program management.
Understanding of digital preservation tools and technologies.
Knowledge of best practices, current issues, and trends in preservation and conservation.
Familiarity with AV/film preservation and digitization.
Enthusiasm for experimenting with formulating, and piloting innovative approaches and solutions to problems.
Ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.> Not all preferred qualifications must be met for consideration
